The artist’s feelings of nostalgia and grief are intertwined with a sense of peace as John Paul remembers the people closest to him. Although this work was initially intended as a memorial to a dear friend, it has become, in the artist’s words, ‘a performance of melancholy and loss, memorialising the passing of those nearest and dearest’.
